In Prince Edward Island, coastal areas are subject to flooding and storm surges. Each of our seasons brings with it specific hazards. In the fall, Islanders are vulnerable to hurricanes; in the winter, blizzards and ice storms are a reality, and all regions are vulnerable to fires at any time of the year. In addition to natural disasters there are other types of risks. There are power outages, industrial accidents and major transportation accidents. As well, there is the possibility of acts of terrorism on Canadian soil. The following list contains the natural risks and other hazards monitored by the Prince Edward Island Emergency Measures Organization.
You may want to keep a copy of the risks with your emergency plan or in your emergency kit.
