Our Microblogging Policy
Thank you for visiting the official Public Safety Canada "72 Hours...Get Prepared"
Twitter page. Please note that this account should not be used to report emergencies. Call 9-1-1 to report a fire, a crime, or to save a life. For less urgent matters, use the 10-digit numbers listed in your local phone book for police, fire, or health services.
The @Get_Prepared Twitter account is managed by four employees from the Marketing and Outreach team at Public Safety Canada.
If you follow us, you can expect between one to five tweets per business day covering some or all of the following subjects:
- Alerts about new content on the GetPrepared.ca website (publications, videos, events related to emergency preparedness, Emergency Preparedness Week).
- Invitations to provide feedback on specific topics or publications.
- Information about what Public Safety Canada and our partners are doing in the areas of emergency preparedness and emergency management.
We may also occasionally tweet about other safety-related information we think may be of interest to followers.
Following
If organizations follow us on Twitter, we may follow them back. We may also follow individuals who identify themselves as having an interest in emergency preparedness. Being followed by us does not imply endorsement of any kind.

We aim to update and monitor our Twitter account during regular office hours (8:30AM – 5:00PM ET) Monday to Friday, with limited monitoring on weekends. Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service owing to Twitter downtime.

We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and endeavour to join the conversation where possible. We will read all @replies and direct messages to ensure that any emerging themes and helpful suggestions are forwarded to the relevant people in the Department.
Re-tweeting
We may occasionally re-tweet content from other users. Provided the content is available in both official languages, we will generally aim to honour requests from the following:
- Other government departments
